These 7 text files will run your business in 2027…

And if you learn only 1 thing from this post let it be harnesses > models.

The 7.3l power stroke diesel motor is one of the greatest engines ever built. They basically run forever.

But without 4 tires, a steering wheel, and seats it’s just a chunk of metal in a garage.

AI models are the engine. Claude Opus 4.6 is the 7.3l power stroke motor. But it needs wheels.

That’s what an agent harness does for an AI model. It’s the wheels.

Openclaw was a harness, not a model. But you don’t need Openclaw or Hermes or any other tool to have your own harness.

I built my own harness that lives in an iCloud folder so I can continue working across all my devices.

What you need are these 7 text files inside 1 folder…

1️⃣ SOUL .md is who the agent IS. Personality, tone, hard rules. Read at every session start. Get this wrong and nothing else matters.

2️⃣ AGENTS .md is how your agent works. Numbered procedures and workflows. This is now an open standard maintained by the Linux Foundation, supported by Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and GitHub Copilot.

3️⃣ USER .md tells your agent who it’s working for. Your name, timezone, company, communication preferences. The onboarding doc you’d give a new hire. Most people don’t have anything like this yet. Don’t be like most people.

4️⃣ TOOLS .md is what it has access to. “Use Gmail for outbound, Slack for internal, don’t touch Twitter without asking.” Don’t be that brief, be specific.

5️⃣ MEMORY .md is how your agent learns. The agent writes to this file. You audit it weekly. This is how it knows what you talked about yesterday or last week.

6️⃣ HEARTBEAT .md is what the agents schedule. “Every morning at 8am, every hour update the, once a week send… This is where the leverage explodes.

7️⃣ STYLE .md is how you want your agent to write. Where you teach the agent YOUR voice. Your hooks. Your phrases. Your sign-off. This is how you stop making AI slop or sounding like everyone else.

You can build those 7 files in Obsidian, plain text files in a folder, or in a Notion database.

Your AI model, whichever one you use, just needs to be able to access these files at the start of every new chat session.

It could be Claude Code, Cowork, Cursor, TrashGPT, or a local model installed on your own machine.

The model is the brain.

The harness is the hands, feet, eyes, ears, hips, etc.

Without the harness, the model is just a chatbot. A vending machine you are chained too.

But slap on a harness to your model and now you have an employee. Trained on how you do things, the way you do things, and the tools you use to do them.

In 2027 harnesses will be what everyone talks about. Those 7 text files will be what’s running everyone’s “zero human companies.”
